Which Avenger would be the scariest if turned evil?

Who would be the scariest is the question being posed here, not who would be the most powerful. It's a challenging question.

However, I believe I would have to choose Captain America.

I can imagine you shaking your head at me. How is Cap a more terrifying antagonist than, say, the Hulk, Doctor Strange, or Scarlet Witch? That's easy.

Captain America is the character I chose since he is the least corruptible. Consider this. The other Avengers members are amply demonstrated to be humanly fallible:

  • Who knows what sort of things Black Widow did while she worked against SHIELD.
  • After losing his family, Hawkeye turned into a ronin who slaughtered criminals with shocking brutality.
  • Iron Man, who has occasionally shown himself to be incredibly egotistical and conceited, he also created Ultron.
  • If Hulk is not restrained, he becomes a monster.
  • As a result of his disobedience and arrogance, Thor has a tendency to brag and has spent a good deal of time being unworthy.

Captain America not so much. Although you may argue that he has made some errors, overall, he is portrayed as a model of goodness. He has perfect values and a moral compass, in part because of the serum.

It was best said by Stan Lee. When asked which side he supported during the Civil War, he responded:

[I'm on] whatever side Captain America was on, because he's the best, pure-hearted person in the whole world.

But what if the infallible, patriotic, and incorruptible model of virtue started acting adversely?

It scares me to think about it.

It serves as a reminder that idols are not to be trusted. Nobody is trustworthy. And it's a scary idea because, if Captain America became evil, who's to say the other superheroes won't? Being bad alone in Cap would scare the populace. The Avengers would likely be done by then.

Just consider how unnerving it is to picture Captain America as an antagonist. But that's not all.

After all, the typical image of a villain is someone along the lines of the Joker.

He has a horrible appearance and is nasty and insane. Even if you can comprehend him, you have no desire to like him. He is a villain, and you will not support him.

But contrast that with Cap.

Stunning, reliable, and pleasant. Cap immediately comes across as a person you want to support and believe in. He is now a villain, though. The endearing smile he flashes? It's immediately unsettling. I could do this all day, right? That has now become a danger.

That's why I believe Captain America would make a terrifying antagonist: he appears to be a decent guy, and that perception of him as a good guy is impossible to change.

If one of the Avengers turned evil, Captain America would be the most terrifying. Period.

Why does Thor respect Captain America so much?

Thor  respects Captain America much more compared to the other Avengers. In fact i would say Thor respect Cap the most in all of the MCU. Thor attacked Captain America when they first met, but Captain America did not attack him. Captain America simply defended himself to bring the conflict to a close. Steve didn't add to the tension by yelling at Thor. Steve wasn't cocky when Thor was knocked back, and he tried to deescalate the situation. "Are we done here?" Steve inquired. His body language clearly indicated that he does not want to fight, but that he will if forced to. Thor relaxed a little and agrees. Thor most likely admires and respects Steve's humble demeanour. So much so that Thor, a god-like entity, agreed to carry out Steve's commands. Steve is injured during the Battle of New York, but he recovers. When Thor asks Steve if he's ready for more, instead of quitting, Steve simply answers "what. I am just getting started." Thor, on the ot...

What if Steve had gone to Titan with Tony in Infinity War?

The issue with the Titan battle was that it was being directed by two haughty individuals who were unwilling to cooperate. They were destined to be dysfunctional with a team that had such a wide range of fighting techniques. You can see Iron Man and Star-Lord mirroring each other's positions during the negotiation. None of them were prepared to set aside their egos or act honorably by remaining cool and collected. Captain America is a take-charge leader, and war strategies are frequently left in his capable hands. People who are familiar with him have come to the conclusion that he is the ideal leader to follow. In essence, Star-Lord would engage Captain America in conversation rather than Iron Man first. Where Quill would get a strong sense of leadership from him.  Either that, or Peter Quill would be familiar with Captain America because he is Earth-born and possibly a fan. In either case, I believe Quill would see his lack of authority. Iron Man and Star-Lord would certainl...
